Thomas Horn Studio

Mrs. Thomas is a certified teacher from The University of Texas at Austin, and has taught since 1993. Twelve of those years were focused in the Plano, Texas area, and she moved to Austin in 2012. She teaches beginners through high school in Lake Travis, Austin, and many area school districts down to north of San Antonio. Mrs. Thomas also currently has a home studio in Southwest Austin.

As a long-time member of both the International Horn Society and the Texas Music Educators Association, Mrs. Thomas is intent on keeping abreast of current methods of instruction and works alongside school band directors to enhance students' music education. She makes private teaching a high priority over that of event engagements, and is thrilled at her students' accomplishments at all levels. Her specialty is getting beginners started in a fun way that is easy to understand the mechanics and function of their horn and playing it.

The Covid pandemic forced all private instructors to become more adaptable, so the Thomas Horn Studio now includes virtual lessons via Facetime, Google Video, WhatsApp, or Zoom. Fees are the same, and scheduling is made through email.

In addition, Amy is a member of the University of Texas Longhorn Alumni Band, and can be occasionally seen playing in Waterloo Winds, and the summer band and UT basketball or volleyball games, as well as the yearly Alumni Band halftime entertainment. As a member of the Longhorn Alumni Band Council and Lifetime member of Tau Beta Sigma, Honorary Band Fraternity, she serves as the liaison for the Beta Gamma Chapter and Alumni Band. Her two children are also a professional theatre artist and a musician. Amy also plays trumpet, English handbells, and bass guitar, and has performed with praise leaders in concert. Her favorite things to do after teaching include reading, walking her labrador, gardening, and musical theatre.
